Good News

We've had some ups and downs since February which led to a lot of testing and then waiting for answers. Right before Robbie's birthday, he had a choking incident at Patti's. He had started table food just a few days before so it was hard to pinpoint the cause right away. When this happens to TEF/EA babies, the initial thought is that the food got stuck at the repair site. So he had an upper GI study and xray in the ER but neither gave us answers. We were discharged the same day and advised to keep him on pureed food until we could do another upper GI. Then Robbie got really sick which made our pediatrician and pulmonologist really concerned. So in the last three months, we repeated the upper GI, drew blood to test for immune disorders and had the inevitable EGD (scope his esophagus) and Bronchoscopy (scope his airway) procedures.

Long story short - we're getting results back and it's all good news! Immunologist said his labs looks normal so no follow up is necessary. GI said he didn't need a esophageal dilation (stretching his esophagus wider so food can go down it more easily) and biopsies came back normal. Pulmonologist confirmed that Robbie still has severe tracheomalacia (floppy airway collapsing on itself) but he wasn't recommending surgery at this time and biopsies came back normal. We can finally breath a sigh of relief.

So back to the choking incident. Knowing what we know now, we still can't pinpoint the cause but, regardless, we've got the okay to start him back on table foods. We're taking it very slow this time.

I'm really looking forward to a calm and relaxing summer. I know prayers work so I'm hopeful!

In celebration of good news, we broke out the pool or "ba" (bath) as Robbie says. He didn't love it but I know he'll come around. He's the offspring of me and Joel...how could he not like the pool!? It's not possible.
