How's Robbie Doing?

This has become an increasingly difficult question to answer lately because there's so much going on with him. Here's a quick update on how our little boy is doing...

Esophagus surgery: still looking good. Pediatric Surgeon likes what he sees so no worries here!

Infection: labs indicate that the infection is getting under control. Every day we ask the same questions, what's his white blood cell count (we want to see this going down), what's his CRP (we want to see this going down) and what was the blood culture (we want to see this negative). For the last several days, his WBC and CRP have been coming down and we've gotten 3 negatives in a row. This is excellent news and it means the antibiotics are working! So long staph infection...get the heck outta here! BTW Robbie does not have meningitis. That was a little "procedure"/possible outcome I was not mentally prepared to hear about or consent for when I got to the hospital yesterday morning.

Hip surgery: there is still a little bit of swelling in his left leg, mainly in his thigh. We just continue to keep his leg elevated and lying on his right side in hopes that the swelling will go down. Robbie will get a sonogram on his leg tomorrow to ensure there is still no residual fluid in there. If everything looks okay, his Orthopedic Surgeon will put him in a Pavlik Harness to help correct his hip, which is easily dislocatable due to the infection.

Broviac line: it's in there and it's doing it's job!

Poor Robbie has been intubated 5 times since he was born. This last time, for the Broviac, really did a job on his little throat and has caused some swelling. Hopefully, it will start to feel better soon. The soreness and swelling is also affecting the way he swallows but fortunately he still has the feeding tube in so he can still get mommy's milk.

All in all, Robbie is doing well! This kid has unbelievable strength and he knows what it's gonna take to get home. He already did it once, after all :)
