Things Come in Threes

Robbie laughs in the face of adversity, he never gives up. This little boy is amazingly strong!

Like I mentioned in my last update, Wednesday was a pretty "busy" day. First Robbie got a feeding tube put in because he's so eager to eat that he forgets to breathe during his feedings (an obstacle we may have overcame today...yea!) and then he got a central line put in because of the long term IV antibiotic treatment he needs to kill the bacteria. There were also two sonograms of his hip thrown in there but we were so happy to learn that a procedure to drain out more fluid would not be needed. That was a big relief for us!

Getting a central line is high priority and time sensitive because the IVs he has right now aren't strong enough to handle these antibiotics. Yesterday they put a PICC line into a vein in his arm. This is a less invasive way to put in a central line but there's a chance it could stop working and it would need to come out. Of course, that's what happen less than 24 hours later. They tried to do it again today but his veins just aren't long and strong enough. The Nurse Practitioner said it's probably a blessing in disguise because who knows how long it would have lasted and there can't be any interruption in administering the antibiotics. Our only alternative is to surgically put in a Broviac central line, which is inserted directly into a central vein in his chest. So that's what we have on the docket for tomorrow, surgery again...boo!

We have faith that Robbie will pull through this surgery just like the other two. He's our miracle baby and God is watching over him. Please keep Robbie in your prayers tomorrow!
