Our Leap Year Baby!

Our little Robbie decided to come a bit early. Was I ready? Absolutely not! Was he? Yes indeed!

Robert Hayden Oonk was born on Wednesday, February 29th at 11:27 PM, 5 lbs 2 oz and 19 inches. Great stats for being only 35 weeks.

He sure does know how to make an entrance too - early, leap year and needing emergency surgery. Shortly after delivery, Joel and I found out that he had a rare birth defect called Esophageal Atresia and Tracheal Fistula. This basically means that his esophagus didn't connect to his stomach and there was a hole from his windpipe to his bowels. He was transferred from Baylor Frisco to Presby Plano on Thursday morning and at only 15 hours old, Robbie went into surgery and came out a few hours later with both defects repaired. Today the doctors tested the sutures and discovered that the surgical repairs healed properly and there was no leakage!! This was the news we've been waiting for all week!

The last 7 days have been a roller coaster of emotions for us. Through it all, there are three things that has given us the strength to stay positive...
  • Trust in God, He will take care of everything
  • The power of prayer is incredible
  • Robbie is a fighter and extremely determined - there isn't anything this kid can't do ;)
We love you so much, Robbie! Welcome to the world!

Here are a few pictures, he's getting stronger and bigger every day!
